Labyrinth at Saint Quentin

This octagonal labyrinth is located in Saint Quentin basilica in France. The church was designed to represent the journey to human completion and contains many symbols of initiation before one finally arrives at the sanctuary. After an intense journey, the traveller begins to traverse the labyrinth. The seeker requires resolution and determined effort to reach the center of the labyrinth and must not give up until the journey is completed. The one who arrives at the centre of the labyrinth must transcend the ordinary self in order to realize Being. Beyond the labyrinth lies a golden section which leads to the heart center of the church. This is a point of balance symbolizing the union of the vertical and the horizontal forces (heaven and earth).
