Rose of Roses

This collage was created by Ervin Bartha and was inspired by a planetarium show he helped to present in Winnipeg in 1988. The pattern of 21 geometric circles is similar to the north rose window of Laon Cathedral, and represents the balanced interplay of light and dark. Each circle has a different geometrical pattern containing the greatest stained glass rose windows from the Gothic cathedrals of Europe, such as Chartres, Notre Dame, Rheims, etc. The complex geometry of each window is based on numbers from sacred geometry and the pattern of circles form pairs of opposites, balancing 'cool' with 'hot.' The primary colours of red, blue and green combine to produce a powerful effect on the human psyche. The collage reveals its inner structure with repeated study and is a fascinating example of sacred art produced by a contemporary artist and visionary.
