Prince Gudea

Prince Gudea was a Sumerian High Priest or learned initiate. The Sumerians are the oldest Middle Eastern culture and exerted a great influence in the realm of the arts and spiritual knowledge up to the time of the Babylonian culture. The most interesting feature of the figure is the interlocking hands, which upon close examination are seen as a physical impossibility. They symbolize the relationship between the Divine and the human, and represent the obligation of humanity to make a higher connection with the transcendent laws of the Universe. The figure of Prince Gudea is the embodiment of objective prayer - the duty of human beings to give their essence to the Highest, thereby creating new possibilities for the Absolute.
