Sunstone

The Sunstone is a huge Aztec calendar carved in stone. It describes the mythology of the Aztec and Toltec civilizations. According to tradition, there have been four previous creation cycles each of which failed. The fifth cycle (the present age) emphasizes the Solar force and is based on the reciprocal maintenance of the universe. The Sunstone represents higher awareness in the sense of giving recognition to the sacredness of creation. The Aztec and Toltec cultures believed that human beings have a duty to furnish a continual force or energy to the Sun, which is the source of all life on earth.
