Unicorn

This wonderful tapestry is located at The Cloisters on the Hudson River in New York. It depicts a unicorn in a corral under a tree. The horn of the unicorn was believed to contain healing properties in pre-Christian times, and the unicorn was later adopted by medieval Christianity as a symbol for Christ. The picture denotes the domestication of the Christ principle into the encirclement of mundane existence. The wedding neckband represents the union of male and female aspects and the floral motif suggests fruitfulness and spiritual growth. Close examination of the image shows that the corral cannot hold the unicorn forever and ultimately the unicorn will jump over the fence and enter the next realm.
